Vicarious Visions developing unannounced Wii U project
Oct 1st
Thanks to Gamespot and a forthright Vicarious Visions employee, we now know that the developer is working on an unannounced Wii U project. I know, I know – shock horror! "Game studio works on a new game for a new game console!"The employee in question has generously listed three projects that the the company is currently working on via his LinkedIn profile. The titles–dubbed Project Phoenix, Project Atlantis, and Project Nova–are being developed as multi-platform releases, but ‘Project Nova’ specifically rouses interest as the only project listed as being a Wii U development, alongside the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.Vicarious Visions, which is owned by mega-giant publisher Activision, is known predominantly for its handheld releases and Wii ports. They have previously handled the Guitar Hero Wii and DS games, as well as a vast, vast list of Game Boy Advance titles – too vast to recount, lest the planet probably explode. Game ports aside, the developer had a positive foray into the console space with Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in 2009. Expect this mysterious, shrouded and shadowy game to reveal itself alongside the Wii U sometime in the future. Hopefully….

No Wii U confirmations until 2012
Aug 3rd
Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata, has stated that there will be no official confirmation on Wii U’s release date, price, or other launch specifics, until 2012 at the earliest. While the console wasn’t expected to launch until sometime next year, such statements suggest that gamers may not get their hands on the Wii U until Q3, or even Q4, 2012.In a recently published Q&A, Iwata spoke to investors about a range of topics, including the struggles of the 3DS, the reception towards Wii U’s E3 unveiling, and Nintendo’s overall plans for the future. "Consumers’ trust," is Iwata’s main concern, especially since the recent 3DS price cut. Iwata doesn’t want consumers holding off on a Wii U launch purchase with the assumption that its starting price will be slashed within six months.Iwata has once again taken responsibility for the sluggish 3DS launch, stating, "I feel greatly accountable for it… Our decision of the price markdown this time has a side effect that, at the launch of the Wii U, people may feel that the price might drop in the near future if they wait."He also reiterated that despite unveiling the Wii U at this year’s E3, the console is still very much…
Iwata wants more of a focus on DLC for 3DS and Wii U
Aug 1st
The Wii was capable of offering downloadable content through Nintendo’s Play and Play service however it was rarely utilised by developers and the service was never a big drawcard for the system. Nintendo’s Satoru Iwata recognises in this digital era that DLC is a big market and he wants to make the service more prosperous for Nintendo and third-parties on both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. Nintendo 3DS developers by the end of this year will have the option to begin working on downloadable content for their games, whether these add-ons will be available directly in-game like on the Wii or through the online store isn’t exactly known. On the Wii U side of things Satoru Iwata and Shigeru Miyamoto have been discussing possible ways to take advantage of DLC and are interested in offering content which will expand gameplay. One thing Nintendo wants to avoid is forcing customers to pay in order to unlock content already on the disc; Iwata feels moves like this tarnish the relationship between consumers and the developer in the long run. What’s your opinion on downloadable content?…
